Weight Problem

As you know my daughter Lauren has a slight weight problem. This was the reason we got out of the RI Little Miss pageant circuit part of Americas Perfict Miss. So we focused directly on soccer to get her in tip top shape if she wanted to pursue my dream of an acting career. She is a natural. I am setting her up with a small commercial / public service announcement. If that goes well I will be her full time manager, booking her jobs and perhaps getting some jobs of my own. We can use each other as a gateway.

An excellent source of information about this kind of issue is Little Girls in Pretty Boxes: The Making and Breaking of Elite Gymnasts and Figure Skaters by Joan Ryan. This is really about top Olympic hopefuls, but mothers of soccer children should be able to relate. Bottom line: don't push it!

Sounds like you're the one who wants to be the star. Give your daughter a break. If only she could be pretty enough, she could get you a job. Sounds like your therapist has quite a job in front of him/her.

Dear Sir,
That is a very hurtful thing to say about my daughter. She is trying hard to maintain her weight. I know that you are a "sir" because no woman would comment anonymously. Good day.

Did you seriously read the post? In no way shape or form did I say anything negative about your daughter. I simply pointed out that you are the one that is attempting to use your daughter to satisify your dream. If you want to get an acting job, go audition, but for God's sake, don't drag your poor daughter around trying to complete your dream.

I was referring to your statement “If only she could be pretty enough, she could get you a job.” She IS pretty and you can not take that away from her. Sure, it would be great to be her full time manager and discover other new stars (AKA management jobs) – I am far from an actress if those are the jobs you were implying. It was dream of mine when I was a little girl, but I woke up with two kids, an advanced degree that I received going to school nights, and busted my a-- to help my husband finish school.

It is easy for a person hide anonymously to comment on my life

It is easy. You are the one putting it out there. If you don't want comments, get a diary. The "if she was only pretty enough" in no way attacks your daughter, but your attitude. You are the one forcing her to play soccer so she can lost weight so that she can be an actress. Why? Because you wanted to when you were a kid. Sounds like you are still a pagent mom at heart.
